History Patek Philippe & Tiffany:

Patek Philippe was founded in 1839 by the polish national, Antoine Norbert de Patek and a compatriot, François Czapek as Patek, Czapek & Co. In 1845, Patek joined forces with French watchmaker, Adrien Philippe. A great innovator, Philippe invented the modern gem-winding and setting mechanisms for watches. The firm then developped the first keyless watch, one of the early versions of which was purchased by Queen Victoria at the world’s first international trade fair – the Great Exhibition of 1851. The company went on to create an array of extremely complicated watches, among others the Graves watch, created in 1932 for the American magnate Henry Graves, Jr. Today, the company is run by the Stern family and is represented by about 350 watchmakers and jewelers worldwide.

Tiffany was found in 1837 in New York City. Tiffany & Co. began selling watches in 1847. In 1853 the statue above Tiffany’s store on Broadway was one of the first public clocks in New York City. Many New Yorkers became used to check their watches against it. When the main store of the brand moved to Union Square and several more times, they moved the statue with them every time.

In 1854, Tiffany signed an agreement with Patek Philippe and with that, becoming the first retailer in America to carry the exclusive timepieces. The special relationship between the two brands continues to this day and Tiffany-dialled Patek Philippe watches are among the most sought-after pieces at worldwide auctions.
