Dimensions:
This is a 14 kt white gold keyless wind slim line open face pocket watch, made in USA in 1925. This pocket watch is unique as it was given to the famous Captain Lieut Dorris Dimmock Gurley on the 22nd of May 1934 as a personal gift.
DIAL:-
The silvered dial has black Arabic numerals with outer minute divisions. The dial has blued steel Breguet hands and a subsidiary second’s dial at the six. The dial is signed: "Howard".
MOVEMENT:-
The cylinder movement has 19 jewels, a bimetallic split balance and overcoil balance spring. The movement is in great working condition; however, we cannot guarantee accuracy for an antique pocket watch. The movement is signed: E. Howard Watch Co, Boston, USA, Pat’d 21" and numbered: 11108.
CASE:-
The watch lies in a 14 kt white gold open face case. The back of the case is signed: "Presented To Lieut. Dorris Dimmock Gurley U.S. N.R. With Deepest Admiration By The Officers And Crews Of The U.S.N.R.A.B. Long Beach Calif. 22 MAY 1934" above a crest.
Captain Dorris Gurley joined the U.S. Navy in 1919 aged 25. His active naval service finished in April 1946, when he retired with the rank of Captain. He was admired by all. During World War II he commanded the naval air stations at Ottumwa, Iowa and later at Bunker Hill, Indiana.
The inner side of the case is signed: "E. Howard Watch Co, Boston, white gold, keystone, 14 K" and numbered: 248876.
