Worldwide Shipping!!
A silver cylinder movement, independent seconds, open face pocket watch, made in Switzerland in 1830. The pocket is complete with a key.
DIAL:-
The white enamel dial has black Roman numerals, outer minute divisions outer 5-60-minute numbers. The dial has golden hands. The dial has an extra golden independent centre seconds hand in between the two hands. There are slight haircracks on the dial.
MOVEMENT:-
This independent seconds pocket watch has a high quality cylinder movement with 12 jewels and 2 winding barrels. The balance of this cylinder movement is a special compensation balance, it is anti-magnetic, and has a compensation curb. The pocket watch is keywind and in good working condition, however we cannot guarantee accuracy for an antique watch.
COMPENSATION CURB:-
A device used in some early watches where one index pin is fitted to the index and the other is fitted to a bi-metallic strip, or the end of the strip acts as a pin. The action is that in heat, for instance, the space between the pins is closed, thus making the watch gain when it would otherwise lose and so compensating for a loss in heat. This system was invented by John Harrison in the early 18th century and much favoured by A. L. Breguet. A similar system was used by the English watch and chronometer makers Arnold and Earnshaw.
CASE:-
The pocket watch lies in a brushed silver open face case with a decorated and engraved finish with a monogram free cartouche. The inner side of the case is numbered: 190. By the three there is a button to stop the compensation.
