JW Benson Silver 0.935 Full Hunter Pocket Watch

A silver JW Benson full hunter pocket watch, made in Switzerland in the 1900’s for JW Benson on London. What makes this watch exclusive is that the case maker’s initials are J.W.B. which stands for J.W. Benson. It is very exclusive to have a watch where the case maker and watch maker are the same person.

 

 

Dial: The white enamel dial has black Roman numerals with outer minute divisions. The dial ahs blued hands and a subsidiary second’s dial at the six.

 

Movement: The anchor lever movement has blued screws and is in good working condition; however, we cannot guarantee accuracy for an antique pocket watch. The watch is complete with antique key.

 

Case: The watch lie sin a silver full hunter case with and engine turned finish on both sides and a monogram free cartouche. The inner side of the case is stamped for silver 0.935 and has the casemakers initial “JWB” for JW Benson and is numbered: 660384. The cuvette is signed: “Watch Maker by Warrant To The Queen, Examined by JW Benson, 62 &64 Ludgate Hill, London, Swiss Made”.

 

According to the book Pocket watches by Alan Shenton (pages 104-107), these were the first machine made watches.
